Exciting Charity of the Year partnership

In October 2018, Nicky Gordon, MD of Genesis Homes was invited to take a tour of Jigsaw. During the tour, and in subsequent visits, he was totally blown away, and humbled, by the work of the staff. At this time, Genesis Homes was looking to support a local charity and straight after the visit, Nicky’s decision was made.

Genesis Homes has raised funds for Jigsaw for 18 months. Fundraising events have included a monthly ‘dress down’ day, a ‘bake off’, a 10k run in Brigham and a 20 mile/10-hour endurance walk (not for the faint hearted!) As well as fundraising, Genesis Homes have donated their time, materials, resources, and a fitted kitchen as they turned an underused room at the children’s hospice into a much-needed Pharmacy Room for the storage and dispensing of medicines.

The culmination of the efforts of the Penrith-based house builder, and a major part of the fundraising, included the 12-month planning and implementation of an amazing charity ball that was held at The Halston on 16 November 2019. The theme of the evening: “The Greatest Show”, included circus themed décor, a range of performers including a bearded lady, snake woman, Burlesque dancers, stilt walkers and a magnificent musical show put on by Carlisle based Explosive Productions.

The night incorporated various fundraising activities including a live auction, silent auction and monetary donations. An emotive film gave guests a ‘behind the scenes’ insight into the day-to-day operations of Jigsaw and formed a major part of the evening, highlighting the importance of continued support and donations to the children’s hospice. The final amount raised for Jigsaw came to £40,000; an amazing amount that will go a long way in helping to improve the lives of the children, young adults and their families.

Nicky Gordon, MD for Genesis Homes said

“I’d like to give a huge thank you to all those who have supported us over the past 18 months and especially at our Charity Ball. To raise so much money has been beyond all our expectations and is truly fantastic. I have visited Jigsaw on a number of occasions and the work that the nurses do never ceases to amaze me. I know that the money we’ve raised is vital to the work of Jigsaw and will pay for nearly three weeks of daily care.”

“I’d encourage any business, no matter how small, to get involved as the money raised supports the invaluable work of the staff at the children’s hospice, as they care for those living with a life limiting illness; something most of us can’t begin to comprehend.

“My colleagues and I have certainly enjoyed some great highs, culminating in our charity ball, and it’s certainly brought us closer together. In our experience, the joy of fundraising is that you don’t need to be the best runner, baker or long distance walker; you just need to want to make other people’s lives better and, as such, everyone here has been able to play a part, even if it’s just paying £2 every month to come to work dressed in casual clothes.”
