This morning, our CEO, Julie Clayton, was interviewed at the hospice by ITV Border, to discuss the ongoing pressures on palliative care services and the ongoing challenges of securing sustainable hospice funding.
As you may know, there has been significant media coverage in recent weeks, particularly surrounding hospices which rely heavily on charity fundraising to cover their operational costs. This issue was also highlighted in the debate in the House of Commons last week, with many MPs advocating for better resources for palliative care services and especially hospices, across the country.
At Eden Valley Hospice & Jigsaw, we receive only 20% of our funding from statutory agencies, with the remaining 80% raised through the generosity of our supporters ā through our lottery, our charity shops, fundraising and gifts in wills. We are fortunate to have such strong community backing, and we were thrilled to be honoured with the Judges’ Award at the In-Cumbria Business Awards on Friday night.
Our commitment to providing compassionate care to those who need it most continues, and we are grateful for the unwavering support of our community.
