Morven’s recipe for fundraising success
- Sunday, 02 May 2021
A local girl has raised over £800 to support Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice by baking a range of cakes and sweet treats.
Earlier this year, 12 year old Morven Yerbury, began to bake cakes and sweet treats to sell in aid of the local hospice. Morven sold the cakes to her family, friends and people from her local village as she raised £860 to support the work of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw.
Morven explained, “I chose to support Eden Valley Hospice as it is my school house’s chosen charity. Also, a friend and neighbour inspired me to help as she explained how the charity was struggling and that she was selling marmalade to help, so I decided to bake.”
“I chose to make cakes and sweet treats as I love to bake and was really pleased that everyone liked my baking, as well as being able to do something to help others.”
In total Morven baked 8 sponges, 31 batches of fudge, 14 batches of cupcakes and 9 batches of cookies bars during her fortnight of fundraising in aid of the hospice.
The money raised by Morven, her family, and everybody who purchased her cakes and sweet treats will help Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw to provide the highest standards of specialist care and compassion to people with life limiting illnesses. This care, compassion and comforting hand to hold is extended to all the patients families, friends and carers.
2021 is a special and significant year for Eden Valley Hospice as it marks three decades of caring for local people with life limiting illnesses. For over 30 years the support of the local community has helped to build the hospice, purchase specialist equipment and provide vital care to local people with life limiting illnesses. Every donation helps the local community.
