Fiona spent her life caring for others, including four years at Jigsaw,
Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice. So when she was diagnosed with an
aggressive cancer on her 59th birthday, she understood the comfort
and support Eden Valley Hospice could provide, not only for her, but for
those she loved.
When Fiona needed end-of-life care, she came to the hospice, where her
husband Rob stayed by her side every night. Their family visited often,
bringing precious moments together, even including the family dog.
For Rob, it was the kindness of the staff as much as their expertise that made the difference. “You could press the buzzer at two o’clock in the morning, and somebody would come through. Nothing was too much effort.” After Fiona died, Rob and their son Ed received bereavement counselling through the hospice. Rob also found support at the Comfort Café, where people who have experienced loss can talk, listen, and simply be understood.
