New events to illuminate the city

A sea of beautiful lanterns. A vibrant neon party. During 2020, the hospice will be bringing two new fundraising events to Carlisle as we light up the city and raise money for local people with life limiting illnesses.

On an early summers evening a sea of orange and blue lanterns will weave their way through Carlisle City Centre during the Lantern Walk. The magical and poignant event will see fundraisers of all ages and abilities carrying a special lantern on two routes as they remember loved ones and think of those currently living with a life limiting illness.

Sam Johnston, Community and Events Fundraiser, said

“The Lantern Walk really will be the perfect event for people of all ages and abilities. Both routes will start at Carlisle Racecourse, with one route taking in the iconic locations of the city centre whilst the shorter route will be two miles and take walkers to the hospice on Durdar Road and back again.”

During the special Lantern Walk people will be given the opportunity to leave their lanterns at the entrance of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw as they remember loved ones. Each lantern will help to light up the entrance to the hospice and show the patients, families, nurses and volunteers that the community is thinking about them.

Meanwhile, in the early autumn Carlisle Racecourse will be transformed with a splash of neon paint, vibrant lighting and a party atmosphere at the Hospice Glow Run. Whether you walk, run or dance around the 3 mile route you will be guaranteed an amazing evening of entertainment.

Please Note: Due to the coronavirus situation the Hospice Lantern Walk has been postponed, a new date for the event will be announced in the coming weeks. A full update on the Glow Run will also be announced in the coming weeks.
