Stunning images of Cumbria are being sought by Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice as part of a photography competition which will help the charity create unique products for their Christmas range.
The ‘Our Cumbria’ photography competition is returning for a third year following the success of the appeal in 2022 and 2023, which saw the hospice, which cares for local adults and children with life limiting illnesses, create a popular range of calendars, Christmas cards, diaries and prints which helped raise vital funds.
Over the last two years hundreds of photographs have been submitted to competition showcasing the very best of Cumbria, from idyllic Lake District scenes to images of the county’s picturesque coastline and wonderous wildlife. The competition is open to anyone, with both professional photographers and keen amateurs entering in previous years.
Traditionally, the photos used in the charity’s calendar and on cards are of landscape scenery across Cumbria, and while people will be encouraged to send in scenes like this, the charity is also keen to see a range of imagery submitted, with animals and local scenes also proving popular.
The best of the images will be selected by a judging panel and will be used as part of the hospice’s 2024/25 Christmas product range. The festive products are a vital source of income for the charity which relies heavily on support from the local community to continue caring for local families. It costs £4.8 million a year to run the hospice, with only around 20 per cent coming from the NHS.
The competition has officially launched this week and closes on Monday, March 8th. Photos that are entered must have been taken in Cumbria within the last two years and each entrant is allowed to submit a maximum of six photos.
Alex Groves, the charity’s business development manager, said: “Cumbria is not short of beautiful scenery, and we’d love to capture that once again in our Christmas products with the help of local photographers. The response we’ve received in previous years has been incredible and the products have been so well received we wanted to invite photographers of all types to get involved again.”
