Are you creative, energetic, and passionate about making a real difference to children and young people with complex conditions and life limiting illnesses? Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice, is looking for a dedicated Activities Coordinator to join our warm and supportive team.
This is a unique and rewarding role where you’ll use your imagination, compassion, and practical skills to bring play, joy, and meaningful experiences to children and young people aged 0–25 with complex medical conditions or life limiting illnesses.
About the Role
- Plan, organise, and deliver a wide range of activities and play sessions tailored to the needs, interests, and abilities of each child and young person
- Support the development and delivery of our Young Adult Service activities.
- Work collaboratively with nurses, medical staff, family support teams, volunteers, and external agencies to provide exceptional experiences.
- Coordinate trips, outings, themed days, and family activities, including sibling events.
- Gather feedback from children, young people, and families to shape future activity provision.
- Ensure all activities meet health, safety, safeguarding, and infection control standards.
You’ll also take part in training and development, maintain high professional standards, and represent the hospice values in everything you do.
About You
- Knowledgeable about the importance of play and activity provision for children and young people.
- Ideally qualified in play work or activity coordination (desirable but not essential).
- Understanding of safeguarding, first aid, and relevant legislation
- A food handling certificate, Makaton, or similar skills are a bonus.
Experience
- Experience working with children and young people, ideally those with complex needs or life limiting conditions.
- Comfortable working with ages 0–25.
Skills & Abilities
- Creative, enthusiastic, and able to adapt activities for a wide range of needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead activities confidently.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise effectively.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- IT literate (Microsoft Office).
- A full driving licence is required.
