Join Us to Celebrate 35 Years of Care at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw
The community is warmly invited to visit Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw as we celebrate 35 years of caring for local families across Cumbria.
To mark this special milestone, we’re opening our doors on Friday 9th October, from 10am to 3pm, for a relaxed drop-in event where supporters, volunteers, families, staff and members of the community can join us for a complimentary cuppa and cake, share memories and discover more about the care and support provided today.
For 35 years, Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice have been there for local people facing some of life’s most difficult challenges. Since welcoming our first patient in 1991, we have grown to provide specialist care and support for adults living with life-limiting conditions, children and young people with complex medical needs, and families in need of bereavement and emotional support.
While much has changed over the years, one thing has remained constant: the incredible support of our community. Today, around 80% of the funding needed to provide hospice care comes from charitable donations, fundraising and community support, with around 20% funded by the NHS.
A Chance to Look Back and Look Forward
Visitors to the anniversary event will have the opportunity to:
- Enjoy complimentary refreshments in our Living Well Hub café
- Take an optional tour of Jigsaw and our newly refurbished Adult Inpatient Unit rooms
- Explore a special anniversary exhibition featuring memorable moments, milestones and stories from the last 35 years
- Discover a timeline charting the journey from the first conversations about hospice care in Cumbria during the 1970s and 1980s through to the present day
- Meet members of the team and learn more about how hospice services continue to evolve to meet the needs of local families

Pop-Up Café Celebrations
As part of the anniversary celebrations, our Pop-Up Café will also be open from 5th to 8th October, 10am to 3pm each day, giving visitors another opportunity to enjoy a cuppa and homemade treats while exploring displays celebrating the hospice’s history and impact.
Visiting Information
The anniversary open day takes place on Friday 9th October, 10am to 3pm, at Eden Valley Hospice on Durdar Road, Carlisle.
Free parking is available on site, although spaces may be limited during busy periods. Additional parking is available at Hammonds Pond, just a short walk from the hospice.
