Baxter, Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw’s PAT (Pets as Therapy) dog regularly brings comfort to our patients and has captured the hearts of everyone at the hospice. Baxter, along with his owner, Geoff, have been visiting the hospice for three years. In that time, Baxter has become well known for his gentle and intuitive nature.
Baxter’s impact is immediate and profound. From sitting quietly beside a patient, offering a comforting presence to families, or simply bringing a moment of lightness, Baxter provides small but meaningful relief during some of life’s most difficult moments.
Many of us know the extraordinary difference a dog can make to someone’s day. Pets as Therapy visits can make a real difference to patients wellbeing, and Baxter’s calm companionship creates meaningful moments of comfort.
We are delighted that Baxter’s impact is being recognised, and has earned him a well-deserved place as a finalist for the BBC Make a Difference Animal Award!
Good luck Baxter at the awards ceremony in September!
About Pets As Therapy
Pets As Therapy is a UK charity that enhances health and wellbeing by providing visits from friendly, temperament-assessed animals. Working with a network of dedicated volunteers and their pets, the organisation supports people in a variety of settings including hospitals, hospices, care homes, schools, and prisons. These visits help reduce stress, improve mood, and bring comfort and companionship to those who may be experiencing illness, isolation, or challenging circumstances.
