Jigsaw Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice welcomes the confirmation of a vital grant

22 October 2025

The Minister of State for Care Stephen Kinnock has confirmed the funding previously known as The Children’s Hospice Grant will be continued for the next 3 years. It represents a commitment for the sector of £80 million until 2029.

The share allocated to Jigsaw is a key part of the funding that keeps the hospice open and supporting children with medically complex life shortening conditions and their families across Cumbria.

Chief Executive, Julie Clayton, said: “This is fantastic news, and we are pleased the government recognises the enormous value of Children’s Hospices. The Children’s Hospice Grant has been a key part of our funding for many years and every year we have to campaign to retain it. To have it confirmed for three years will give us the ability to plan with confidence to make sure we are supporting children with life-limiting and medically complex conditions and their families. We are delighted.”

The commitment around this multi-year funding will give the hospice the confidence and ability to plan support for your young people.

Julie added: “We are pleased to see the government commit to this vital funding and we know the sustainability of hospice care continues to be a challenge and we hope this continues to be an issue the government is committed to improving.”

Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice receives just 20% of its running cost from the government through the NHS, with 80% dependent on fundraising from our community who support us in incredible ways.
