OUR CARE

Caring for people with life-limiting conditions

Eden Valley Hospice is a charity dedicated to supporting adults in north Cumbria and surrounding areas who have a life-shortening diagnosis and need specialist in-patient care. In addition, we also provide care for their families, friends and carers.

All the care the hospice provides to its patients and their families is free at the point of delivery.

Our approach to care

Our expert medical, nursing, allied health and social work professionals, counsellors and spiritual teams aim to ensure care is planned to meet the individual physical, social, psychological and spiritual needs of the patient and provide support to their family and/or significant others.

We take a person-centred and holistic approach to care across all the services we offer. Helping better support people with long-term life-limiting conditions to live well and lead fulfilled lives in the time that remains for them. We aim to increase personal resilience so that we empower patients to maximise their quality of life.

We recognise that delivering high-quality care requires teams that, as well as being caring and compassionate, must also be well led, well trained and equipped with the knowledge, competence and expertise and resources required to deliver excellent care.

We work collaboratively with many other care providers and agencies to ensure the pathway and journey through palliative care is ‘joined-up’ and seamless. We aim to support people to access a range of services and find those that are most relevant to them in their care journey, and we will work with others to improve access to our services.

Our values of caring, respect, inclusive and innovative are central to our ethos and drive how we approach our service users and their significant others. We aim to provide safe, responsive, effective and compassionate care in a warm, welcoming and friendly environment.

Patient and family support

We understand that life-limiting illnesses affect not only the patient, but their network of family, friends and carers also. With this in mind, the care we provide is extended to include these integral people within a patient’s plan of care, as well as offering support and help to them during what can be a difficult, uncertain time.

Jigsaw, Cumbria's Children's Hospice

We also care for children and young adults from across Cumbria, at Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice. You can find out more about Jigsaw on its own dedicated website.

How is this care funded?

We’re dedicated to providing specialist care for local adults who have life-limiting conditions, to do that we receive 20% funding from NHS, with the other 80% raised by our dedicated local community.

I can’t fault the care we had. They looked after us so well, day and night they were there for us when we needed it most.
