The first-ever Race Across Europe has officially come to a close, and what an incredible adventure it has been.
Seven teams travelled across 10 countries and 19 cities, navigating their way from Carlisle to Istanbul with no phones, no flights and a limited budget.
Over the course of the challenge, teams navigated their way across Europe, overcoming obstacles, embracing new experiences and pushing themselves far beyond their comfort zones. As well as creating lifelong memories, participants raised vital funds to support local hospice care, helping ensure that Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw can continue to provide care and support for families across Cumbria. The challenge may be over, but the impact of their efforts will make a huge difference.
A huge shout-out to our brilliant teams who took part:
- Gary Martin and Steven Green
- Richard Story and Edward Graham
- Matt Rayson and Harry Slater
- James Hill and Scott Price
- Mike and Lynn Steadman
- Joe and Tom Harrison
Jim and Caroline Main
Congratulations to Richard Story and Edward Graham, who claimed the trophy and were crowned champions!
The teams returned home on Monday evening to a fantastic welcome, and we loved sharing their arrival live on our Facebook page with supporters who followed every step of the challenge!
Together, they have raised more than £83,000 and counting to help local families access specialist hospice care and support when they need it most.
A very special thank you to Jane Sedgwick – Travel Counsellor whose time, care and expertise helped turn Race Across Europe into a reality. Jane spent the last year helping to plan the destinations, coordinate logistics and support the teams throughout their journey.
And a huge thank you to every participant, supporter, donor and volunteer who helped make this challenge such a success.
