Role Summary
To support the smooth running of the café by providing a warm, welcoming environment for customers, assisting with serving food and drink, and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards. This role helps create a friendly community space and supports the café’s mission to connect with the community, break down barriers, reduce isolation, raise funds & promote sustainability. As this role is customer facing and the role holder will be dealing with members of the public, it is vital that the hospice values are reflected in the work that is carried out.
Days and times
W/C 24th November 2025, 10am-2pm
Role Requirements
- Â Friendly, approachable, and reliable
- Â Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Basic numeracy (for handling payments, if required)
- Previous café or customer service experience is helpful but not essential
Training Requirements
- On-line mandatory training relevant to the role
- Relevant face to face training when required
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Course
- Ongoing support for the Hospitality Lead
Duties and responsibilities
- Greet customers and provide excellent customer service
- Take orders and serve food and drinks
- Assist with basic food preparation (e.g., making sandwiches, brewing coffee)
- Operate the till and handle cash/card payments (if applicable)
- Clear tables, wash dishes, and maintain a clean café environment
- Follow food hygiene and health & safety guidelines
- Work as part of a team and communicate effectively with staff and other volunteers
