Whether you are donating a sofa, an item of clothing or a book, as long as you are a UK Taxpayer you can sign up for Retail Gift Aid.
Similar to Gift Aiding a monetary donation, the government scheme allows charities to reclaim 25% from HM Revenue and Customers on the sale of any donated goods at no extra cost to you. Plus, you can now sign up in all of the Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw shops.
Step 1Ā ā Complete the Retail Gift Aid form in any of the Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw shops. If your donations are being collected, you can access and print the form to complete before our drivers arrive and hand to them on the day. You can also ask a member of staff to send you a Gift Aid form with our collection drivers. By signing the form you agree that Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw can act as an agent and sell your items on your behalf.
Step 2Ā ā You will be given a unique donor ID Number and all your items will be labelled with this number which will help us total up the amount of money raised from the sale of your items. Whenever you donate items in the future, please bring along the card with your unique donor ID Number to include on additional donated items.
Step 3Ā ā When you items are sold, weāll let you know (by letter or email) how much youāve helped us raise and confirm that youāre happy for us to treat the money as a Gift Aid donation. We will then claim the extra money from HMRC ā you donāt have to do anything.
It is important we keep our Retail Gift Aid records up to date, therefore you need to inform us of any changes to your circumstances.
If you stop paying tax (e.g. you stop working) it is vital that you let us know so we can stop claiming Gift Aid on any donations which you make. It is also important that you inform us of any changes of address or contact details (e.g. email address) as we have to be able to contact you about Gift Aid donations.
