Jerry and Dave from our Facilities Team have been kept very busy since the government announced a £100 million capital investment to UK hospices last year.
In December, we received our initial share of £94,736 and in the coming months we can draw down £276,661. This is strictly restricted to building and environmental improvements. We immediately invested in behind-the-scenes essentials, such as IT security, additional solar panels and urgent improvements to our plumbing infrastructure – some of which is more than 30 years old and showing its age! While not all the upgrades are visible, they’re vital to making sure our patients and their families continue to receive comfort and care in a safe environment.
Our funding this year will support more plumbing improvements and much needed upgrades to our patient rooms and bathrooms.
We are very grateful to the government for recognising the importance of hospice care and its essential role to our communities. And although this funding may have done wonders for our creaking pipes, the quality hospice care delivered daily is still funded by you, our amazing hospice supporters.
We will continue to work with our MPs, commissioners and the government to highlight the vital work we do and the important role we play in supporting our under-pressure health and care system. We hope that a more long-term approach to providing the much-needed sustainable funding is being developed, so that we can continue to bring you the compassion and support that is hospice care, now and in the future.
