About this Appeal
During a year when we’ve not been able to remember and mark special occasions as we would have liked, you have the opportunity to make a real difference and celebrate the memory of a loved one as part of our annual Garden of Memories appeal.
Whilst there are signs of hope with some restrictions easing, the challenges presented to all health care providers are still unprecedented and have required all providing care, particularly End of Life care, to balance infection control measures against protecting the human rights of vulnerable patients and their families.
There are many moments that stood out to me over the past year. The support that staff gave a patient to do her hair and make-up before she had a Zoom call with her son. The sadness of having to restrict visiting. These memories are both positive and negative, but we always try to keep the needs of those we care for at the heart of every decision we make.
The hospice gardens are now in full bloom and are providing much joy and comfort to the patients and their families who are in our care. You can donate today in memory of those very much missed and very much loved to you. Your donation will help provide care and support to local people who need to access specialised and dignified care.
Sandra, the daughter of Jim who was cared for by the hospice, explains the impact that the gardens had on her Dad:
He was an avid gardener all his life, spending most of his days in his garden and greenhouse potting up many plants and vegetables. When the staff at the hospice discovered this they would move his bed in different positions so he could get a better view of the garden, plants and birds, oh, and the rabbits! Apparently the only time he pressed the buzzer for the nurses to come was to tell them that those blooming rabbits were eating the plants again! I will treasure the last few nights that I had with him as I slept by his side holding his hand and was there by his side as he slipped away to look after an extra special garden in the sky (I do hope they got him a greenhouse!)
This summer we will be placing special pebbles around the hospice gardens, each adorned with a special name of those you miss who are still very much hold a place in your cherished memories. To remember a loved one during Garden of Memories and add their name to a pebble you can:
- Download a copy of the pebble template, by clicking here, and return to Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw. We’ll then write your dedication on a pebble which will be placed in the hospice gardens until the end of August.
- Add the names of your loved ones in the message box below, starting your message with 'I would like my pebble to remember... (insert names of your loved ones) and we will add the names of your loved ones onto the pebbles and place in the hospice gardens.
- Design your own pebble - You can get creative and design your own pebble and simply return the completed design, along with your donation, to Eden Valley Hospice or any of our shops in Carlisle and Penrith. Please place all pebbles and donation forms inside an envelope, plastic bag etc. clearly labelled with Garden of Memories.
Remembering your loved ones this year could not be simpler. To donate, please complete and return the donation form below or call 01228 810801.
At a time when the hospice is still in great need of funding to secure the future of the hospice, your support will help our beautiful gardens and vital care today, tomorrow and for many years to come.
