What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle therapy to aid relaxation, reduce anxiety, relieve stress and help boost your own immune system.

As Reiki helps relax your body and calm your mind, it can be useful in all cases where you need a helping hand, whether you are experiencing an illness, worries, anxieties or stress.

Reiki’s gentle energy can be experienced safely by people of all ages, including babies, children, the frail and the elderly.

What happens in a Reiki Treatment?

When you have a Reiki session, you remain fully clothed throughout. You can receive Reiki sitting in a chair, or lying on a bed or couch. The most important thing is for you to be comfortable.

By placing their hands on, or near your body, Reiki energy flows through the Therapist’s hands to help boost your own energy levels.

Reiki energy is often felt as a warmth, a pleasant tingling or a gentle wave sensation.

Reiki is now widely recognised as an effective Complementary Therapy working well alongside conventional medicine.

What will I experience?

Most people experience a deep sense of relaxation and calm when they receive Reiki.

Some people experience a reduction in physical pain or other physical symptoms, such as nausea, headaches or digestion problems. Reiki can also aid restful sleep, calm the mind and help boost your energy levels.

Reiki is now widely recognised as an effective Complementary Therapy working well alongside conventional medicine.

Patient and Carer Comments:

“Now I remember what relaxed feels like, such a relief after being anxious and unsettled for so long”

“Reiki is a real help, I've had the best night’s sleep in ages”

“I love how calm I feel afterwards”

When is Reiki available?

Reiki is available to all patients and carers at Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice, Eden Valley Hospice Adult In-Patient Unit and Day Hospice.

You can receive Reiki in your chair, in your bed, in a Complementary Therapy room, or anywhere else that is most comfortable for you.

A usual session lasts around 20-30 minutes, though a shorter session can still be beneficial and very relaxing.
