OUR CARE

Outreach and Wellbeing

Our outreach and wellbeing services offer specialist support for people living with life shortening illnesses.

We are trying to reach outside the hospice – this is so we can reach more people closer to where they live.

Our Elephant Café supports people living with advanced illness to help manage making the most of life. Our Comfort Café supports those who are bereaved.

We will be building on these regular events offering peer support in the coming months and will be working with other organisations to have a bigger impact.

We also want to connect into groups which are already supporting people with degenerative illnesses so we can share our expertise and offer:

  • General advice about living with a palliative illness and how the hospice could support you
  • Specific advice on challenging symptoms including
    • Diet and nutrition
    • Managing breathlessness
    • Advanced care planning
    • Nausea and vomiting

If you are part of a group supporting people with a long term condition and visit from one of our team would be helpful please get in touch with evh.jigsaw@nhs.net

As our outreach services develop please let us know if you would be able to support a café style event in your area please email evh.jigsaw@nhs.net

The Elephant Cafe

On the first Thursday of each month we host an inclusive café designed for individuals who have some form of palliative illness.

The café takes place in our day unit and provides a comfortable and social atmosphere for individuals to connect and enjoy delicious coffee and light refreshments while building meaningful relationships with others who share similar experiences.

There is no need to book when attending the café, you can just turn up, as long as you are able to provide your own transport to and from the hospice.

This is led by volunteers.

For more information please call us on 01228 810801.

Family Support Days

We hold regular family support days here at the hospice for all our Jigsaw families. The day is filled with activities centred around the children and young adults as well as classes for parents and carers.

The events also allow parents, siblings and carers to look around Jigsaw and see how we care for their child.
