Who can attend?

A person with cancer or other progressive and life limiting illness, which is incurable and presents physical, emotional, spiritual or social difficulties requiring input from the palliative care team.

Referral

Referrals are made via the person’s GP, district nurse, social worker, specialist nurses or a member of the multi-disciplinary team. All referrals are discussed at the daily multi-professional referral meeting. Following referral, one of the day services team will contact the person.

The Elephant Cafe

On the first Thursday of each month we host an inclusive café designed for individuals who have some form of palliative illness.

The café takes place in our day unit and provides a comfortable and social atmosphere for individuals to connect and enjoy delicious coffee and light refreshments while building meaningful relationships with others who share similar experiences.

There is no need to book when attending the café, you can just turn up, as long as you are able to provide your own transport to and from the hospice.

For more information please call us on 01228 810801.

Stories for Life

Would you or someone you cherish like to have their precious memories professionally recorded on audio for free?

Stories for Life (formerly known as Hospice Biographers) launched in 2017 when Barbara Altounyan began to record her own father’s life story shortly before he died. She soon realised this could be something others might appreciate. Since then, volunteers in hospices including ours, have been trained around the UK.

Our volunteer biographers can support you to make an audio recording of your memories – be that a poem, a special time in your life or highlights from your life story.

The process is simple, accessible and confidential, and we aim to capture your
story in as little as an hour. Expertly trained biographers will put you at ease and help you to plan your story.

If you would like more information or are interested in meeting one of our biographers to explore the possibility of having a story recorded, please contact our Day Services team.
