John Peatfield, from Bowston, has completed a yearlong fundraising challenge in aid of Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.
Over the last 12 months John has completed 650km of sporting endeavour to support Jigsaw. During many of the events John has been joined by friend Dave and brother Rob in Nordic walking and rowing, as well as fantastic family support to achieve the milestone to celebrate his 65th birthday year.
The challenge began at the Dobbiaco-Cortina Fondo ski marathons on 7 February 2015 and finished representing Great Britain at the World Masters cross-country skiing championship in Vuokatti, Finland, from 4 to 12 February. Over the year John and the team have completed 150km cycling, 150km Nordic walking trail races, 60km ultra half marathons, 42km sailing, 15km roller skiing, 100km cross-country skiing, 105km rowing and 38km kayaking.
John added, “As a former Trustee I am humbled by the dedication of the Jigsaw team to support life-limited young people and their families. The challenge was both to raise awareness and some funds to assist Jigsaw’s work.”
As part of the challenge John completed a 65km triathlon with a difference. In less than five hours he completed 15km roller skiing, 40km cycling and 10km Nordic walking on Morecambe Promenade. The fundraising triathlon and 650km challenges have helped John raise nearly £1,500 in aid of Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.
