Swimming challenge for hospice fundraiser
- Thursday, 28 January 2016
In early June a local fundraiser will brave the chilly water of Lake Windermere to support the care provided at Eden Valley Hospice by completing the Great North Swim.
Jamie Warwick, from Carlisle, will be undertaking the 1 mile challenge over the weekend of Friday 10 to Sunday 12 June to support the local charity.
Jamie explained, “Eden Valley Hospice is close to my heart because my Grandad spent his last weeks there before passing away a few years ago. He was made as comfortable as possible and I know from visits how attentive and caring the staff are. Eden Valley Hospice was the obvious choice for me when deciding on a charity to raise funds for.”
Everybody taking part in an event over the Great North Swim weekend will have their own reason and purpose for undertaking one of the swimming challenges. Whether they are completing a personal challenge or fundraising in aid of a local charity they will create a memory which will last a life time.
Jamie continued, “I wanted to do something a bit different, fun and something I could train for as an incentive to regain a bit of fitness. I used to be a club swimmer through my childhood and this seemed like a good way to get back into swimming.
“I am most looking forward to testing myself over a mile. I am a competitive person so I’ll want to go as fast as possible. I’m also hoping to get a few family members and friends to come along and have a great day out in the beautiful Lake District.
“Even though it’s taking place in June, I am well aware that there are no warm lakes and Lake Windermere is going to be pretty chilly!”
The money raised by Jamie will help Eden Valley Hospice provide the highest standards of care, support and activities to people with life limiting illnesses. This care and compassion is extended to all of the patients’ families, friends and carers. If you would like to sponsor Jamie please visit his JustGiving page.
