Great North Run
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Every year thousands of people dream about running around the streets of Newcastle at the Great North Run and we are delighted to announce that all our places for this year’s event have been filled.
If you were lucky enough to have received a place in the Great North Run ballot for this year’s event you can still do something amazing and run in aid of the hospice. We will be able to provide you with a running vest, sponsor form and any help you need to raise money in aid of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw.
The world famous 13.1 mile run will provide you with a fantastic opportunity to challenges yourself and raise money for the hospice whilst creating memories which will last a life time.
In 2016, a fantastic team of fundraisers pulled on an Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw vest to help raised tens of thousands of pounds in aid of the hospice during our 25th anniversary year. Here's what a few of them had to say:
Catherine Bowe, 2016 Eden Valley Hospice Fundraiser
“I am taking part in the half marathon genuinely because I hate running. I wanted to raise money for the hospice but I wanted it to be a hard challenge and for me that was running! It will take weeks/months of training, motivation and dedication, but there will be many a time I hate the runs and want to give up, but I will remember what I am running for and how it will help those in need in the hospice.”
Melissa Taggart, 2016 Eden Valley Hospice Fundraiser
“The reason why I have chosen to take part in the Great North Run is because I’m one of those people that watches it every year on TV looking for people your might know and thinking ‘I want to do that’ then not really doing anything about it. In a moment of madness after seeing a Facebook post from Eden Valley Hospice saying that the hospice had received 25 places for 25 fundraisers to complete the challenge for their 25th year I sent off an email and was pleasantly surprised when I received an email saying I’d been allocated a place.”
Dave Moran, 2016 Eden Valley Hospice Fundraiser
“If somebody had said to me 3 years ago that I would be preparing for this year’s Great North Run I wouldn’t have believed if for 1 second. However, after changing my lifestyle and attempting nights out running along the streets of Carlisle I found myself becoming a more determined and focused person. I quickly discovered that whilst out on a run, with nothing but an iPod and myself for company, this was time to take stock of where I was in life and what I needed to do to move forward.
“By doing the Great North Run, this will be the culmination of all that I have worked towards whilst been able to give something back to a cause that means so much to those in north Cumbria and south west Scotland.”
