Sammy preps for the Great North Run!
- Thursday, 13 April 2017
A local woman will be pounding the streets of Newcastle on Sunday 10 September to help the care, support and activities provided at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.
This year’s Great North Run will be special for Sammy Scott as she runs in aid of the local charity. Sammy will be joined by a team of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw fundraisers on the start line as they raise money to support the hospice’s specialist nurses and doctors.
“I have chosen Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw because it’s a local charity. When I was younger my mum used to collect for the Eden Valley Hospice Lottery in our local area which I helped her out with, so it’s been a charity I’ve known about since I was young.
“I am fortunate that I have not had any family or friends need the help of Eden Valley Hospice or Jigsaw yet. Many people do and will in the future, so to me it’s important to help fundraise and do what I can, so the hospice can do what it does and help those that need it.
“Over the last two years I have set myself a challenge with running, starting with a 5k and then last year a 10k. I still have never fully trained for them so decided this year I need something I couldn’t just turn up to and hope to finish. I will also be doing 5k and 10k events over the next few month with the Great North Run being my biggest challenge.”
Every runner taking part in this year’s Great North Run will have their own memory, reason and purpose for completing the 13.1 mile course. Whether it is to set a personal best time or to raise money in aid of charity they will all create memories which will last a life time.
“I’m looking forward to the support from the crowd and hopefully actually finishing it! I’ve been told the atmosphere and support on the day is amazing and you never feel like you are running alone.
“It’s going to be one hell of a challenge for me as I am not a fit person, hopefully enough training will prepare me for this but it’s a long way and it’s definitely something I am nervous about.”
The money raised by Sammy and the Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw fundraisers will help the local charity to provide care, support and activities to adults and children with life limiting illnesses. This care and compassion is extended to all of the patients’ families, friends and carers. If you would like to sponsor Sammy please visit her JustGiving page.
